According to the statement given by Pfizer Inc official, the company is planning to request U.S. regulators for approval to third booster dose of its Covid-19 vaccine, citing initial data that showcases it can drastically increase immune protection against the dreadful virus and its mutated variant.
Talking about the plans, Mikael Dolsten, research head at Pfizer said in an interview that company has received initial data from an early human study which shows that a third dose of its existing coronavirus vaccine is safe and is capable of raising neutralizing antibody levels by 5 to 10 fold times as compared with the original vaccine.
He further said once more data is in hand, Pfizer will be asking the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to authorize a booster shot that could be given after a period of six to eight months following the original two doses. Dolsten also said that Pfizer is also having a word with regulators in other countries and the European Union about the new results
