Drug overdoses Is Increasing For Young Adults

The use of illegal substances and drugs is a very common event that has been fought for years. Drugs are used as a source of entertainment or pain relief. It is very common between adults and teens due to the social value they add to users and the stress relief benefit. However, there are a lot of negative side effects obtained from the use of drugs which is why the higher percentage of the planet made the use of such substances illegal.

This phenomena is out there and growing as a new study conducted by a team of researchers have shown that the number of young people suffering from overdoses of drugs has been increasing lately. Overdosing is to use bigger portions of the substances, more than the body can handle. This can lead to disorder or at extreme cases can be fatal. The study was published with the results on the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs.

The study was led by, PhD holder Bina Ali who is a member of the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation in Maryland. He commented on his results saying, “The surge in drug poisoning deaths . . . among adolescents and young adults reflects the ease of access to pharmaceutical drugs, especially prescription opioids . . . and later transition to more potent opioids. Many young people are introduced to opioids through prescription drugs, such as Vicodin or OxyContin. They often misuse these drugs with motivations to relieve pain, relax, feel good, or get high.”
