Coronavirus: Experimental Vaccine to be tested by Moderna Inc.

The outbreak of coronavirus sent shockwaves globally as several cases of death due to the virus emerged in many parts of the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) is of the opinion that countries should be prepared for the worst case scenario as the COVID-19 could become a potential pandemic. A pandemic is a disease that spreads through infection covering a large geographical area or most parts of the world. Such epidemics or pandemics trigger an urge to create a remedy or a vaccine which could be benificial for the entire human race. In the wake of COVID-19 virus, many pharmaceutical companies are doing a consistent research to come out with a vaccine for this deadly virus.

A positive sign, a ray of hope seems to appear as Moderna Inc. a Massachusetts based pharmaceutical company has come up with a vaccine for the life threatening coronavirus. This vaccine is still in the initial phase as it will be tested. Moderna has its manufacturing plant at Norwood. The first batch of the vaccine has been sent out to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The trial for clinical purpose which will consist of 20 to 25 volunteers will start by late April. The effectiveness of the vaccine will be tested through this trial.

The results of this trial could be obtainable by July or August. According to Anthony Fauci, the director of NIAID, the first phase trial of the vaccine is happening in three months after Moderna obtained the sequence which is a sort of a record. Fauci is also of the opinion that coronavirus could be ineffective if warmer climates set in. Since Moderna has used the technology that is gene-based its unpredictable that the vaccine will work. It is only through a constant research and development, the vaccine can be called a success. But even if its successful, it may be available only until next year.
