ClearDATA Launches Machine Learning System Masking Patient Data

ClearDATA, a vendor of healthcare public-cloud security, compliance, and privacy technologies & services has launched a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) system called ClearDATA Locate Mask. It enables healthcare organizations to leverage unstructured datasets containing Protected Health Information (PHI) or Personally Identifiable Information (PII) by masking or redacting the sensitive data.

Powered by machine learning (ML) models, Locate Mask broadly shares patient data securely and in a compliant fashion. Redacting patient information, organizations can retain critical information to research, innovate and improve patient care, with up to 15 customized Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) identifiers available. These identifiers include such as age, diagnoses, location, service dates, and symptoms.

Importance of ClearDATA Locate Mask

As part of the Locate product suite, Locate Mask has been designed to help healthcare organizations build a culture of compliance. It enables them to take advantage of available data for other purposes. By using Locate Mask, the healthcare organizations can create a policy-based process of using low-risk, meaningful data for research & development and to train ML models. At the same time, they can also maintain patient privacy and public-cloud adoption.

Without masking technology, healthcare organizations are unable to share data efficiently for medical research or to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) or ML technology. Currently, if patient data is shared, or even used internally, organizations are bound to use wholesale de-identification or encryption technologies to make all identifiable values anonymous.
